The story Night of the Twister is a suspense because you kno that the men are criminals but you want to know what they are going to do with Karen.
When is the suspense introduced?
The suspense in this story is introduced when Garth holds Karen at gun point.
How is it resolved?
It is resolved at the end when Karen shoots Garth with the antique shotgun.
Did the author include any red herrings?
The author included red herrings when Karen told the criminals that tornado's sounded just like a freight train, so when the train came it scared them and gave her time to climb up to the shot gun and get it down while the men were hiding away in the storm cellar.
Is the story an example of poetic justice?
This story is a good example of poetic justice for two reasons. For one thing the Criminals who had broken out of jail and that have committed many unpunished crimes have faced the consequences, and second like the police officer said to Karen and she was very lucky but also had to live with such a harsh thing such as killing someone.
"Night of the Twister" is a story about a very courageous woman who is stuck in a house with very violent criminals but she is able to stay on the same page as the men and keep herself safe, this story is a suspense because you never no what will happen next. Karen is one of the main characters in this story, she was at her parents house tidying up when the funnel clouds started forming and she wouldn't dare to leave the house for the travel home. While she was stuck in the house she thought she herd a car pull up but on her way to the window the door was kicked open and two men came barging in with pistols pointed at her, the men were two criminals who had broken out of jail the day before and as she herd on the radio they had killed a motorist stole his car and brutally beat a waitress that morning. They were on there way to the freeway when the road got washed out and they had to take the cow road but it lead them to her parents farm house. The men questioned her at gun point and she sat answering them calmly being as clam as she could be. The one older man who went by the name of Garth ordered the other man Jerry to search the house for other people just in case she was lying. He also searched for money and during one of his searches he found a picture of Karen and her father ,her father wearing a police uniform so she told them that he was not a trooper any more but because he was once they assumed that there would be guns in the home ,she told them about the ones upstairs but not the antique one on the wall in the kitchen because they would probably assume that it did not work but it was loaded and ready for fire. Later she made them a quick supper of hot dogs and caned beans, and she told them her memories of tornado's and how they sound like freight trains, she went on to scare them a little bit and finally Garth told her to stop the talk about tornado's. Garth told her how when they were done with her she would really be sorry that the house didn't have any money in it and Karen told Garth that he didn't really have to hurt her he could lock her in the storm cellar or even take her with them but not to hurt her. Then they heard the sound it was like a freight train she asked the men if they heard it to and with out any haste they hurried into the storm cellar and that gave Karen time to climb the chair and grab the antique shotgun aim and when Garth peeked back up to see what she was waiting for she fired the blasts killed Garth instantly but Jerry would live with injuries. The Police came and hauled away the Jerry and Garth's body and the one police man who had been standing with Karen as she watched them put Garth's body in the hearse told Karen how lucky she is to still be alive and how careless the men must have been to let her get her hands on a gun, and how she will have to live with the weight of killing a person for the rest of her life. She told the police officer how she tricked them when she told them that the tornado sounded like a freight train and when the train came a little before ten she told them it was a tornado and how that gave her enuff time to get down the gun.

The story way up to heaven is a suspense because you wanna no what happens when she gets back
When is the suspense introduced?
The suspense is introduced when Mrs. Foster needs to get to the air port the first time but her husband is deliberately trying to make her late which puts her a state of panic. Then she talks about how she cant read Mr.Fosters face anymore all she can read in rage.
How is it resolved?
This is resolved when Mrs.Foster decides to leave her husband stuck in an elevator for six weeks to die.
Did the author include any red herrings?
When Mrs. Foster goes to the door and either the elevator get stuck or her husbands scream it doesn't say what sound she hears but we have to assume this when we get to the end and find out the elevator is stuck.
Is the story an example of poetic justice?
Well the Husband got punished for not treating his wife with respect buy putting her into a nervous state of being.
"Way up to Heaven" is a suspense filled short story about a woman with a phobia of being late or missing a train. The story is about how Mrs. Foster is going on a trip to Paris to visit her daughter and her family, but her husband deliberately tries to make her late and put her in such a nervous state that the muscle in the corner of her left eye would twitch. Her and her husband have grown apart in the many years they have been together, lately Mrs. Foster could not even read the expressions he showed on his face, she could only read rage. So that day when Mrs. Foster was ready to leave for the plane and her husband took as much time as he could just to put her in that nervous state, her flight ended up being delayed. The next morning when her husband insisted on catching a ride with her, then tried to make her more late so he could go find a gift he wanted her to give to his daughter while she was there he went back into the house, and while he was in the house Mrs. Foster found the gift in the car she told chiefer to wait then went to the door but while she was there she heard the sound of the elevator get stuck her husband must have been in there so she decided to leave him there and go for six weeks without him as she planed and then come back and call the elevator fixers so they can find the dead body in the elevator and that's what she did. So because there was no evidence of her leaving him there she was off the hook because she had been gone the hole time he was in there rotting. The suspense was resolved in the end when Mrs. Foster came back and called the elevator repair man, so we put to and to together so that we know that the sound she heard while standing at the door was the elevator getting stuck because it didn't tell us that in the story. This story used red herrings when it didn't tell us what noise she heard but it did say a familiar noise and when she came back she said the elevator is stuck a gain so we assume that that means that it has gotten stuck before and that she has heard that noise before.

Courageous poems
We have been reading Anne Sexton's poem, "Courage" and Rudyard Kipling's poem "If". Both poems deal with the theme of courage. Which poem appeals most to you and explain why. Consider what the poet says and how each poet expresses his/her view.
Out of the two poems If and Courage, Courage is the one that stands out to me. One thing that I really like about this poem is how much personification it used. The first time I read the poem I thought it was about drugs then as i looked into it more i realized it was about abuse and hardship. My favorite thing in this poem is how he sees courage as a fire within. The repetitive in the If poem i do not really like. It just felt weird because if was used so many times it got kind of boring.

Assignment #2 IF
In Kipling's poem If he uses the terms man and son I do not believe that it was sexest or anything like that. I think the was simply implying it to all humans because that poem is a lesson for not just men but for women as well. And the way he uses the terms man and son makes us realize that it is and elder telling his child a life lesson, then we read the poem as more of a conversation.

Cristy's shot of intelligence
When Cristy learned how to write it changed his life forever,and his families. Before he learned to write he was just a bundle of compressed muscles that were not good for anything. When he learned to write it was a source of communication for Cristy. It showed he did have intelligence and he proved all the doctors all wrong. After his intelligence was known he then learned how to write and to communicate and then he wrote the story of his life that wouldn't have been the same if someone else ha wrote it.
